Though the burden of brain amyloid-β (Aβ) is routinely estimated using mean cortical
standardized uptake value ratio (SUVR) values derived from Aβ positron emission tomography
(PET), increased sensitivity for the detection of Aβ burden has recently been shown
using a novel outcome measure known as amyloid load (AβL). In order to generate AβL, an algorithm is applied in order to match canonical images derived from logistic
growth modeling to a static PET image. In the present study, we aimed to investigate,
using [18F]flutemetamol PET, whether a weighting factor (W) derived from an analogous principal
component analysis (PCA) based normalization approach might provide an additional
alternative to SUVR.
